Last night was the opening of the Mystic Art Center’s – 59th Regional Show (August 7th – September 19th). My piece “In the Hay Field/Day” received  the Mabel Kingsbury Fentress Award.   As usual the event was packed. Attendees also had an opportunity to view the solo show of last year’s regional first prize winner Karen Forde Whittemore.  Her solo show CUBA! CUBA! includes photographs from her visits to Cuba over the past several years. A quote from her show catalog ” What may seem at first glance lifeless, does not accurately portray the Cuban people.  I invite you to explore the images and contemplate what might appear depraved and foreign, yet is universally relevant to our own existence.  Beneath the surface, lies the beauty within.”
