2022 – Art Center East – Vernon, Connecticut – FIBER ARTS EXHIBIT – February 5th – 26th. Gallery Hours: Thursdays – Saturdays 1 – 5 pm.  This exhibit includes work in felting, quilting, embroidery, knitting, crochet, hat making, textiles, wearable art, and mixed fiber arts. Fiber Arts have a long tradition not only of utility but of storytelling and personal expression. This exhibit celebrates the hard work and creativity of fiber artists. Juror  Alesia Maltz, Ph.D. – Alesia Maltz, Ph.D. is a lifelong weaver who has taught Textile Design and History, Environmental Art and Environmental History.  She recently received a Litchfield Hills Creative Award for the Loom Room Maker Space in Norfolk, CT.   My piece Joined By the Hand Cuffs/Burning Embers” can be seen in this show.   https://artscentereast.org/fiber-arts/

2022 – SAQACT LOCAL COLOR 5,”A Connecticut Welcome” – 1st Venue The Guilford Art Center February 4th – March 5th.  My pieces “Love Letters . . . as the Numbers GROW.” and “Mighty Oak Leaves in Connecticut” have been juried into this show.  Anna Patalano, a professional and independent juror, selected 35 pieces for the final collection. 2022The Mattatuck Museum Waterbury CT – “Mix Master at the Matt” Member show. 2022 – Chaplin Town Library – In support of Chaplin’s Bicentennial year 2022, each month I will display a quilt with information on one of the historic homes on Chaplin Street, Chaplin, CT. January’s quilt – “The Molly Hubbard Quilt”. For February 2022 along with the 12”x12” square of the William Ross Library my piece “Tribute to Truitt” (44H x 46W). will be on display.

2021 – Quilt National 2021 Athens, Ohio May 29-September 5, 2021. Founded in 1979, Quilt National was intended to demonstrate the transformations taking place in the world of quilting. Its purpose was then, and still is, to carry the definition of quilting far beyond its traditional parameters and to promote quiltmaking as what it always has been — an art form. Initiated to support and recognize contemporary art, MIXMASTER provides an opportunity for established and emerging artists to debut their most recent work, done in the last three years. 2019 – Stepping Inside the Outside, Bristol Art Museum (BAM), Bristol, Rhode Island – February 1 – March 10. A former carriage house, the light and airy gallery spaces in this museum promise to provide a unique setting for the quilts in this exhibit.  Jurors: Mary Horrocks and Joshua Wills.  This exhibit requires the artists to step outside, literally, to observe their natural environment and then share the textures, colors, and patterns as well as the emotions it evokes using fiber as the medium to communicate their vision.  Show catalog.  “Tying Up the Hay #2” by CWSmith has been juried into this show.  Artist Reception February 1, 2019 6pm – 8pm.

The exhibit celebrates the concept of narrative as construed by Connecticut artists. 2014 – October 20th- New Britain Museum of American Art – New Britain, CT – Docent talk by co – representatives of the Connecticut Chapter of Studio Art Quilts Associates (SAQA) Catherine Whall Smith and Barbara Coleman Adams.  One of the SAQA traveling Trunk Shows was displayed and referenced in this talk. “What is SAQA’s definition of an art quilt?” SAQA defines an art quilt as “a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.”

2014 – June 6, 2014 – Wayne Norman radio show interview “The Quilts at the Mill Museum” The Executive Director of the Windham Textile & History Museum, Jamie Eves with fiber artist Melanie Johnson and co-representative of the Connecticut chapter of Studio Art Quilt Associates, Catherine Smith talk about quilting and the pre-civilwar family heirloom quilt Wayne Norman donated to the museum.

2014 – “Inspiration Quilts – Then & Now” May 16 – September 7, 2014 –    Windham Textile & History Museum – 25th Anniversary Show 1989-2014.  The historic quilt collection at the Windham Textile & History Museum ranges from the pre-Civil War era to the mid-twentieth century.  For the museum’s 25th anniversary celebration Co-curators Catherine Whall Smith and Michele Palmer wanted to showcase some of those historic quilts, and make then relevant today.  Smith and Palmer invited twelve quilt artists to choose one of the museum’s quilts to inspire them to create their own interpretation of that quilt especially for the exhibit. They also asked members of the Connecticut chapter of SAQA Studio Art Quilt Associates to submit a quilt block featuring a spool of thread.  The 25 blocks were sewn and quilted into a 25th anniversary quilt, which has become part of the WTHM permanent quilt collection. 2014 – “LOCAL COLOR” opening at the Guilford Art Center, Guilford, CT – Friday, February 7th from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. – Sister in Cloth are hosting this event – so plan to attend and get one more opportunity to see “Local Color” in a whole new venue. 2013 – “Staying In Line” was juried into Nor’Easter: The New Britain Museum of American Art 44th Annual Juried Members Exhibition.  Juror:  Lexi Lee Sullivan is the Assistant Curator at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, MA. Lexi has curated many shows at the deCordova Museum and has previously worked at the Museum of Modern Art. She received an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from Tufts University and a BA in Art History and Anthropology from Williams College.  Opening Reception; Sunday, October 13th – from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. At the museum in New Britain, CT.
