Catherine Whall Smith . . . shares “Quilts = Art = Quilts” 2024 – https://catherinewhallsmith.com/2024/10/09/catherine-whall-…-art-quilts-2024/
Just sharing some information about the up-coming “Quilts = Art = Quilts” show – November 2, 2024, to January 5, 2025 at the Schweinfurth Art Center. – For details go to https://schweinfurthartcenter.org/quiltsartquilts-2024/ – which includes a list of participating artists. “Quilts=Art=Quilts” is an international juried quilt exhibition at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, N. Y. The Art Center has been a longstanding proponent of quilts as a visual arts medium and has been presenting quilts in a gallery setting since 1981.
Below is my Artist Statement for “Back Pain” – detail shown on the right: “As I continue my journey creating pieces for my “Transfusion” series, I made the decision to reflect on how my bones were being impacted as I age. Using my photo images of a plastic skeleton, I digitally printed them on treated cotton. These images were used to tell the story of how aging and what we do or not do transfuses into our bones, sometimes resulting in “Back Pain”. Sharp edges and movement “in and out” was my design focus for this piece.”
